Bitget futures: Why can't I open a position even though I have assets in my account?
When trading futures on Bitget, you may encounter situations where you have assets in your account but are unable to open positions. This issue can stem from a variety of reasons. In this article, we'll walk you through the possible causes and how to resolve them, so you can resume trading quickly.
1. Assets have not been transferred to the futures account
Bitget uses a multi-account system, including spot account and futures account. If your assets are still in your spot account and have not been transferred to your futures account, they cannot be used for futures trading.
Solution:
• Log in to Bitget and head to the Assets page.
• Select Transfer to move funds from your spot account to your futures account.
• After the transfer is complete, check if the futures account balance is updated.
2. Account balance is lower than the minimum opening requirement
Each trading pair on Bitget has a minimum required amount to open a position. If your account balance is too low to meet the margin requirement or minimum order size, the system will reject your order.
Solution:
• Check the minimum order requirement for your chosen trading pair on the Bitget Futures Info page.
• Make sure your account balance can cover both the required margin and trading fees.
• If necessary, deposit additional funds or transfer more assets to your futures account.
3. Position size exceeds the maximum limit
Bitget sets maximum position limits for each futures trading pair to manage risk. If your position exceeds the allowed ratio, the system will block new position orders.
Restrictions:
• Single account limit:
○ Main account limit: 5% (excluding sub-accounts)
○ Combined main + sub-account limit: 15%. Even if you open multiple sub-accounts, each one (including the main) is still subject to the 5% individual limit, and the combined limits must not exceed 15%.
Solution:
• View current position ratio: Check if it is close to the upper limit on Bitget OI Limit.
• Adjust your position:
○ Reduce your current position to avoid hitting the limit.
○ If using sub-accounts, ensure your total positions across the main and sub-accounts do not exceed 15%.
• Switch trading pairs: Change to a different trading pair with higher liquidity if the current one is restricted.
4. Account is under risk control
If your account triggers Bitget's risk control mechanisms (such as unusually high position risk or abnormal account behavior), your ability to open new positions may be temporarily restricted.
Solution:
• Check if you've received a risk control notification in your dashboard.
• Contact Bitget customer service for clarification and instructions on how to lift the restriction.
5. Trading pair or market restrictions
Some trading pairs may be temporarily restricted due to high volatility or system maintenance. Additionally, certain trading pairs may require a specific level of identity verification.
Solution:
• Confirm whether the trading pair is currently active on the Bitget Markets page.
• Check your identity verification status. If necessary, complete advanced verification.
6. Other possible reasons
Here are a few more factors that may prevent you from opening a position:
• Network issues: Unstable internet connections can cause order submission failures. Try checking your connection or switching devices.
• System maintenance: Some features may be temporarily unavailable during scheduled maintenance. Refer to Bitget Announcements for updates.
• Order parameter error: Incorrect order details (such as price or quantity) may violate trading rules. Double-check your input before submitting.
