It’s not always easy to find YouTube videos that perfectly fit our preferences. Recognizing this, the platform is now experimenting with a new feature called “Your Custom Feed” to help solve the problem.
This trial is designed to reduce the annoyance users feel when algorithmic suggestions don’t quite hit the mark. In the past, YouTube’s recommendation system has often misunderstood what viewers actually want. For example, watching a handful of Disney clips might make the algorithm assume you’re a devoted fan, flooding your feed with similar videos, even if that’s not your intention.
If you’re included in this test, you’ll spot the “Your Custom Feed” option alongside the usual “Home” button on the main page. Selecting it lets you enter prompts that reflect your personal interests.
Rather than endlessly browsing through content that may not suit your tastes, this tool gives you the power to guide your recommendations by submitting specific prompts. For example, if you’re interested in cooking, just type that into the custom feed and YouTube will start highlighting more related videos for you.
Although it’s still uncertain how widely adopted “Your Custom Feed” will become, having the option to personalize your YouTube recommendations could significantly improve the user experience. This approach might work better than individually selecting “Not interested” or “Don’t recommend channel” on unwanted videos.
YouTube isn’t alone in rolling out personalized feed features. Threads has also been spotted experimenting with an algorithm customization tool, and X is developing a function that lets users mention its AI assistant, Grok, to fine-tune their feeds.
