Jump Crypto proposes removing Solana block computation limit
Jinse Finance reported that Jump Crypto's Firedancer team has proposed removing the computation unit (CU) cap for Solana blocks after the Alpenglow upgrade, allowing block capacity to scale with validator node performance. High-performance nodes can process more transactions and earn more rewards, while low-performance nodes will automatically skip oversized blocks using the skip-vote mechanism. Alpenglow will also reduce block finalization time from 12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds, and improve network resilience and data optimization. Wattenhofer, Head of Research at Solana development company Anza, supports this idea but cautions that it may bring risks of centralization and network stability.
