ECB President: Independence Is the Prerequisite for Central Banks to Fulfill Their Mandate Effectively
According to a report by Jinse Finance, European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde stated in an interview with U.S. media on the 24th local time that central bank independence is of "decisive importance," warning that any interference with this independence could have serious consequences. Her remarks come against the backdrop of recent repeated pressure on the Federal Reserve by U.S. President Trump. Lagarde pointed out, "If a central bank loses its independence, or if that independence is threatened, it becomes dysfunctional," which could lead to "instability or even more severe situations." She emphasized that independence is a prerequisite for a central bank to perform its duties effectively.
