ConsenSys: Critical Bug in MetaMask Causes Excessive SSD Writes, Fix Pending Release
According to Jinse Finance, ConsenSys has confirmed that its MetaMask browser extension contains a critical bug that causes abnormally high-frequency data writes to users' solid-state drives (SSDs), reaching up to 500GB per day and accumulating as much as 25TB over three months, which severely shortens SSD lifespan. This issue primarily affects users of Chromium-based browsers such as Chrome and Edge, and the extension continues to write data in the background even when the wallet is not in use. Some users have reported that this bug has already consumed about 50% of their SSD's lifespan. ConsenSys stated that they are aware of the issue and are actively investigating it. A fix is "coming soon" and will reduce both the frequency of data writes and the number of data retrievals.
