Swedish Justice Minister Calls for Increased Seizure of Crypto Assets Involved in Crimes, Lawmakers Propose Including Bitcoin in National Reserves

Odaily Planet Daily reported that Swedish Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer has called on the police, tax authorities, and law enforcement agencies to intensify the seizure of criminal proceeds, especially cryptocurrency assets. Confiscation legislation that took effect last November allows law enforcement to seize property “without having to prove that someone actually committed a crime.” This means that if authorities suspect anyone of illegally acquiring cryptocurrency and that person “cannot explain its origin,” the police and other agencies will have the right to seize these assets. Swedish Democratic Party MP Dennis Dioukarev supports this seizure initiative and has called for the confiscated BTC to be transferred to Sweden’s central bank to establish a national strategic Bitcoin reserve.
