Trump to Notify Trade Partners of Unilateral Tariff Rates as Early as Friday
According to Jinse Finance, Trump stated that the United States may begin sending letters to its trading partners as early as Friday (local time, the 4th), unilaterally setting tariff rates, with July 9 as the final deadline for negotiations. On Thursday local time, Trump said, "We may start sending some letters, probably starting tomorrow, maybe 10 letters a day to different countries, informing them of the tariffs they will need to pay to trade with the United States." On Tuesday, Trump said he was not considering postponing next week's deadline. When asked whether the negotiations might be extended, U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent said earlier on Thursday that Trump would make the final decision.
