According to Jinse Finance, U.S. President Trump stated that he does not believe it is necessary to extend the July 9 trade deadline, and that other countries must reach agreements with the United States before this date to avoid higher tariffs. In an interview with Fox News, he said, "I don't think an extension is needed." He then added, "I could extend it, it's not a big deal." Previously, last Friday, Trump had said that the government could "do whatever it wants" with this deadline, including extending or shortening it. On Friday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent said, "Some countries have offered us very good deals, but it may not be possible to complete all negotiations before the tariffs on certain countries, announced by Trump on April 2, come back into effect. If we can reach agreements with 10 to 12 of our 18 major trading partners—plus another 20 important trade relationships—then I believe we can complete all trade negotiations before U.S. Labor Day (September 1)."
