WHO and VeChain Take Action Against Global Drug Counterfeiting
According to the WHO, one in ten medicines in low-income countries is counterfeit or of poor quality. This results in more than 100,000 deaths each year and billions in losses due to recalls, fraud, and misuse. VeChain offers a solution that provides QR-code-linked product identification, immutable delivery verification, and cold chain integrity assessment.
In China, VeChain is already dealing with a vaccine scandal in which hundreds of thousands of unsafe doses were included in mandatory vaccination programs. The Chinese government has revoked licenses and seized unsafe vaccines after revealing systemic problems in the production and distribution of the drugs.
VeChain is partnering with certification company DNV GL to deploy IoT devices that collect data on vaccine production, transportation temperatures, and distribution. This data is immutably stored on the VeChainThor blockchain, ensuring that each dose of the vaccine has a unique identifier accessible to consumers and regulators.
