Brave Launches Blockchain-Based “.brave” Domain on Polygon

- Brave launched the “.brave” blockchain domain with Unstoppable Domains, minted as NFTs on Polygon.
- “.brave” domain lets users send crypto and access Web3 content via Brave Wallet and IPFS.
- Brave plans to seek ICANN approval, expanding usability across both Web2 and Web3 spaces.
Brave has launched the “.brave” domain in partnership with Unstoppable Domains, introducing a new chapter in web browsing. This marks the first time a mainstream browser has created its own blockchain-based top-level domain.
The .brave domain is live and available as a tradable NFT, minted on Polygon and requires no renewal fees. Brave’s new feature integrates directly with Brave Wallet, simplifying crypto payments and allowing decentralized websites via IPFS. Users can now replace long wallet addresses with readable names, making transactions more user-friendly.
Brendan Eich, Brave’s CEO, said the domain aligns with their mission to give users more control and privacy online. Over 85 million Brave users can now register their own “.brave” names through Unstoppable Domains.
Brian Bondy, Brave’s CTO and co-founder, described “.brave” as a native identity layer that belongs to each user. The domain resolves across multiple networks, including Ethereum, Bitcoin, Solana, Base, and Sonic. This wide compatibility supports easier access to Web3 applications and digital assets.
Users can showcase digital identities through UD.me, displaying their assets, public credentials, and wallet connections to other Brave users. The launch also connects “.brave” to Unstoppable Domains’ larger ecosystem, which includes tools like domain trading and gated messaging. Login with Unstoppable provides direct access to dApps, games, and metaverse spaces.
Sandy Carter, COO of Unstoppable Domains, called the domain a bold step toward open digital ownership. Brave has also added Unstoppable Domains to its Rewards 3.0 Partner Program. This could help grow adoption of the Basic Attention Token (BAT), already accepted by 1.5 million verified creators.

Brave said version 1.81 of its browser will support “.brave” domain resolution, with release targeted for August 5, 2025. Users can access decentralized content and make cryptocurrency payments directly through the browser without needing third-party tools.
Plans are underway to register “.brave” as an official top-level domain through ICANN. If approved, “.brave” would become functional across both Web2 and Web3, expanding its global use. The initiative shows how blockchain can reshape browsing, combining decentralized tools with familiar internet interfaces.
