According to River, corporate sector participants purchased 157,000 BTC in 2025. At the same time, institutional investors increased their reserves by 49,000 BTC and government entities by 19,000 BTC.

Analysts found that since 2024, the number of BTC holders among corporate entities has grown by 154%. This year, the largest buyer of Bitcoin was the American software company Strategy (formerly known as MicroStrategy), which specializes in business intelligence. The company purchased approximately 121,000 BTC, accounting for 77% of all corporate purchases in 2025.

Companies from various industries have shown interest in BTC this year. According to River, the largest buyers of the asset were:

  • financial and investment companies (35.7%);
  • technology companies (16.8%);
  • professional and consulting firms (16.5%);
  • real estate companies (9.7%);
  • non-profit organizations (8.8%);
  • consumer and industrial companies (5.7%);
  • healthcare companies (3.7%);
  • energy, agriculture, and transportation companies (3.1%).

Public companies increased their BTC holdings to approximately $56.7 billion in Q1 2025, according to Bitwise.

River analysts also noted a significant decline in interest from retail traders and individual investors. Their combined Bitcoin holdings fell by 247,000 BTC in 2025. The majority of institutional investors plan to increase their allocation to digital assets in 2025.

Max Krupyshev, CEO of CoinsPaid , previously noted that BTC can be considered a hedge asset and a tool for reducing dependence on traditional financial instruments while diversifying reserves. “Any state could implement this initiative if it sees strategic value in doing so,” Max commented.

Bitcoin is considered a reserve asset in the EU and in twenty U.S. states . Authorities in New Hampshire have already officially approved the creation of a strategic Bitcoin reserve.
