Ethereum Pectra Upgrade: Will ETH Price Recover Post Launch?
Ethereum is rolling out its biggest software update yet, called Pectra, as the network struggles to meet early promises and win back frustrated users and developers.
The blockchain, once seen as the future of a new financial system, is now dealing with growing competition and falling prices, according to a Bloomberg report.
Impact of Ethereum Pectra Upgrade On ETH Price
The update is scheduled for May 7 and aims to improve how people use Ethereum by making it more user-friendly. Some changes included are smoother staking, smarter wallets, and cheaper storage. These are small but useful improvements that make the network easier to use and more secure.
According to Edein Chin, co-founder of Parataxix Capital, “It’s a welcome software upgrade that will improve the efficiency and utility of the network, but alone not likely to drive Ethereum’s price meaningfully higher”
As of writing ETH price is trading at $1769, just a 2% drop recorded today. However, the price has dropped by over 40% this year. Nonetheless, despite the absence of hype around ETH ahead of the upcoming upgrade, analysts remain optimistic.
Crypto analysts expect Ethereum price to rebound to the $2,000 level if it breaks above the critical resistance zone around $1,800. Meanwhile, crypto analyst Michaël van de Poppe outlined the reason behind today’s decline, which according to him, is related to the FOMC meeting on May 7, 2025.
In a post on X, he wrote, “Gold continues to peak pre-FOMC. That’s why $ETH and the altcoins continue to go down.” This suggests that the potential impact of the upcoming Pectra upgrade is still unutilized.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin, by comparison, has stayed mostly flat and remains the top cryptocurrency by a wide margin. Solana, another competitor, has also dipped, but not as much.
What’s New For the Ether Network?
Pectra got its name from Prague and Electra, a star in the Taurus constellation. It brings the most proposed changes in any Ethereum upgrade so far. One big change helps reduce traffic on the network by updating how staking works, which could lead to more people running nodes to support the system.
Vivek Raman, co-founder of Etherealize said, “It’s small things like that that need to be addressed. By turning a wallet into a smart contract, that unlocks a lot of really cool things”
With Pectra, users can do things like swap tokens with fewer clicks and even sign transactions using Apple’s Face ID instead of memorizing long passwords. That makes Web3 apps feel more like regular apps people already use.
The update also gives Ethereum’s sister networks, called Layer 2s, double the cheap storage. This makes those systems faster and helps Ethereum compete with quicker blockchains like Solana.
