UAE to teach AI to students from 2025
Starting in the 2025–2026 academic year, the United Arab Emirates will introduce artificial intelligence as a subject for all public school students, covering kindergarten through grade 12.
The Ministry of Education confirmed that AI lessons will be integrated into existing school schedules, requiring no additional class time and using age-appropriate modules for each grade level.
According to Minister of Education Sarah bint Yousef Al Amiri, the curriculum will address seven core areas: data and algorithms, software applications, ethical awareness in AI, real-world AI applications, AI-driven innovation and project design, AI policies, and social engagement.
Designated teachers will deliver the content as part of the Computing, Creative Design, and Innovation subject, supported by comprehensive resources, including lesson plans and adaptable activities provided by the ministry.
“Our goal is to teach our children a deep understanding of AI from a technical perspective, while also fostering their awareness of the ethics of this new technology, enhancing their understanding of its data, algorithms, applications, risks, and its connection to society and life,” stated Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE.
The initiative is described by officials as a strategic step to prepare students for a rapidly changing digital landscape and to ensure they acquire skills relevant to future employment and societal needs.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Education and Human Resources Council, called the move a “strategic milestone” that reflects the UAE’s commitment to equipping future generations with necessary tools for a tech-driven world.
The program will initially apply to government schools, with no current information on whether private schools will adopt the same curriculum.
Teachers will receive ministry support to ensure the effective rollout of AI education across diverse classroom settings.
