The U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has announced the work results for the previous 80 hours, which are significantly behind schedule
Golden Finance reports, according to BusinessInsider, the U.S. Government Efficiency Department (DOGE) announced in an article on X on Friday that it has cancelled about $420 million worth of existing or soon-to-be-signed government contracts and two leases within 80 hours. According to BusinessInsider's calculations, this is equivalent to cancelling contracts worth about $126 million per day.
If the organization works at this pace for 530 days from January 20, 2025 to July 4, 2026, then it will cancel approximately $67 billion in contracts each year. (Note: The temporary service of the US DOGE should terminate on July 4th, 2026.) This would ultimately account for about 3% of Elon Musk's initial goal of cutting the federal budget by $2 trillion or 7% of his reduced target of $1 trillion. Currently DOGE mainly focuses on DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) contracts and idle buildings but cannot directly change the federal budget without congressional approval.
