The Montenegrin Minister of Justice signs the extradition order, Do Kwon will be extradited to the United States
On December 27, according to Vijesti, Montenegro's Minister of Justice Bojan Božović has signed a decision to extradite Terraform Labs founder Do Kwon to the United States. Previously, the Supreme Court of Montenegro ruled that the legal conditions for extradition to the United States were met.
Do Kwon is being investigated by US and South Korean authorities due to his involvement in financial scandals related to TerraUSD and Luna's collapse. The incident in May 2022 led to about $40 billion evaporating from the cryptocurrency market, causing several crypto companies' bankruptcy. Do Kwon is accused of defrauding investors and concealing assets.
He was arrested in Montenegro in March 2023 for using a forged passport and sentenced to four months imprisonment. After serving his sentence, both the United States and South Korea requested extradition. After review, Montenegro's Ministry of Justice decided first satisfy America's extradition request.
