Opinion: KPMG research shows that the sentiment of cryptocurrency investors is rebounding
A recent study by KPMG shows that after a year of turbulence in the cryptocurrency market, investor sentiment seems to be rebounding. The study surveyed approximately 2,400 private cryptocurrency investors from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, revealing changes in investment behavior and attitudes in the DACH region. The research found an increase in cryptocurrency investments with 54% of respondents allocating more than 20% of their total investments to digital assets. However, the study also highlighted a shift in investor behavior showing more caution and scrutiny. Newcomers to the market are conducting deeper evaluations of investment opportunities requiring providers to make greater efforts to convert interest into actual customers.
When choosing their preferred cryptocurrency exchange, security remains a significant concern for investors with 82% emphasizing its importance. Deposit and withdrawal options (65%) as well as transaction costs (62%) also ranked high on evaluation criteria. Regarding asset preferences, Bitcoin maintains its dominant position within investors' portfolios with 91% holding this type of cryptocurrency followed by Ethereum chosen by 78% of investors as their second largest digital asset. Notably Solana's popularity has increased compared to last year growing by 9%, securing a place among top favored digital assets among regional investors. The German government has been formulating regulations for cryptocurrencies aimed at protecting investors while ensuring financial stability. In 2019 Germany passed legislation allowing banks to handle cryptocurrencies and is currently discussing rules regarding exchanges and ICOs . Regulatory bodies such as BaFin and Federal Ministry Finance are responsible for overseeing compliance focusing on Know Your Customer (KYC) rules along with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) measures designed prevent fraudulent activities on exchanges.
