Nvidia to Begin Mass Production of H20 AI Chip for China in Q2 2024 Despite Delays and Restrictions
Nvidia, a U.S. chipmaker, will begin mass production of its H20 artificial intelligence (AI) chip for China in Q2 2024. The H20 chip is the most powerful of three China-focused chips developed by Nvidia, but its initial production volume will be limited and prioritized for major customers. Chinese companies have been hesitant to purchase the downgraded H20 and have explored domestic alternatives due to concerns about potential U.S. restrictions. To regain its position in China, Nvidia plans to release two more chips, the L20 and L2, which comply with new regulations but have reduced computing power.
