Surprisingly (or not), $ETH has been very strong recently. It's a good time to see why CT has been always wrong about it. TLDR: There is no L1 race. Ethereum has already won. Currently, @RWA_xyz reports about $12.5 billion of tokenized assets across the top 20 networks, and the Ethereum ecosystem accounts for $10.3B (83%) of that amount. Take BlackRock’s $BUIDL, the largest institutional tokenized product. Of its $2.89 billion in value, only $104 million sits on chains outside Ethereum’s ecosystem. Put another way, 96.4% of the total asset value lives on Ethereum and its rollups, while just 3.6% are on Solana, Avalanche, and Aptos. (More about this in the 1st image taken from @Etherealize_io's dashboard) This is because Ethereum's ecosystem offers the best risk-adjusted solution for enterprises, institutions, and tradFi players to deploy products onchain, or eventually launch their own blockchain. Rollups’ customizability provides the much-needed flexibility for existing businesses to come onchain, but also the cheapest way to reach the highest level of security by leveraging Ethereum's security. If it was all about speed and throughput, Ethereum, but also any blockchain, wouldn't be the way to go. A simple centralized database would be. Databases do a better job of storing data today. However, databases lack decentralization. And let me state it clearly: Decentralization matters. It’s what makes Ethereum the platform that companies trust and build on top of. In 2025 alone, we’ve seen a surge of institutional-grade activity on Ethereum. Here are some of the major players (from newest to earliest): • @DeutscheBank • @RobinhoodApp • @stripe • @Visa • @BlackRock • @Ubisoft • @Fidelity • @bbva • @Citi • @cenbank • @gcba • @UBS • @apolloglobal • @nubank Ethereum’s architecture is the most effective way to scale blockchains. Yes, that may sound like blasphemy for many reading this, especially as the consensus on CT is that L2s are the worst thing ever, but the rollup vision is the way to go forward. After spending quite some time in the past months researching different RWA-focused chains and diving deep into their tech, it’s clear that enterprises and institutions need customized architectures (what a discovery, right?). A bank needs a totally different setup than a gaming studio, and rollups let each get exactly what they need. Some examples: • Banking L2: Fast, private chains with built-in KYC. Something you can’t do on Ethereum L1. • Real Estate L2: Reversible transactions for title disputes, impossible on L1 but easy on a custom L2. • National ID L2: Citizens manage their credentials and enforce region-specific privacy rules for background checks and voting. Something a generic L1 can’t offer. • Healthcare L2: L2 where patient records are shared between approved providers, ensuring only authorized staff see sensitive data. A single blockchain wouldn't be able to accommodate everyone. That’s why we’re seeing solutions like subnets, rollups, and permissioned layers built on top of L1s. Different organizations can spin up their own environments yet still interact together. And this last point is fundamental, as it reconnects to what we said at the beginning. If it's only for speed and throughput, databases would do the job better than any blockchain. But here, it's about speed, throughput, security, and liquidity. Interacting with other networks opens up more use cases, enhances liquidity, and brings all the several benefits of DeFi. Having L2s on top of an L1 seems to be the best solution right now, and Ethereum leads the way, with its L2s ecosystem valued at $38.6 billion (source: @l2beat, excluding native tokens). Furthermore, this dynamic will be exacerbated once regulations emerge and each region sets its standards. In the coming months and years, we’ll see more defined rules across jurisdictions, but they won’t be the same everywhere. Ultimately, this will require a high degree of customization since no single network can serve every jurisdiction. The L2 scaling roadmap is the optimal architecture: Ethereum remains the root of trust, ensuring maximum security through its data availability and settlement layers, while rollups handle latency, throughput, user experience, and other optimizations. • Ethereum provides security and decentralization • Rollups deliver privacy, speed, low fees, and customization Keeping onboarding big players, building top-tier products, and developing strong network effects is the winning playbook. From there, it’s all about increasing revenue (will post about this soon) and capturing more value. Check out the Excalidraw in the 2nd image to visualize this concept. Hence, to capture the massive long-term demand for blockspace, Ethereum must double down on its rollup-to-business strategy, providing settlement and data availability on L1. Every new rollup that taps into Ethereum DA grows the pool of institutional capital that the next rollup can access, making it harder for other DA solutions to compete with Ethereum. It's wild to think that Ethereum, to solve its gas-fee bottleneck a few years back, has unknowingly taken the optimal path to scale for both institutions and mass adoption, and it’s now so far ahead that no one can catch up.
