Hong Kong Woman with Over 10 Years of Virtual Asset Investment Experience Loses More Than HK$4 Million in Serial Scams
BlockBeats News, July 19 — A local woman in Hong Kong with over 10 years of experience investing in virtual assets recently lost more than HK$4 million worth of cryptocurrency after falling victim to scams twice. The incidents occurred when she sought assistance on Telegram after failing to obtain a promotion on a virtual asset platform. Police remind the public to always contact customer service through official channels and never click on suspicious links or disclose personal account passwords and verification codes.
According to the police, the victim had more than 10 years of experience investing in virtual assets. After failing to secure a promotion on a virtual asset platform, she tried to seek help from official customer service but did not receive an immediate response. She then searched for "customer service" on Telegram and proactively contacted an account that appeared to be official to request assistance.
The other party falsely claimed they could help and sent her a suspicious link. Without suspecting anything, the victim clicked the link and, following the instructions, entered her "personal information," "account number," and "transaction password." When she logged back into her virtual asset account, she was shocked to find that some of her assets had been transferred out, realizing she had been scammed.
Subsequently, the victim found another "customer service" account on Telegram, with the person claiming they could help recover the stolen virtual currency. She fell for the scam again, entering her personal information on a fake website provided by the scammer, which resulted in the remaining virtual assets in her account being stolen as well. She was scammed twice in a row, losing a total of over HK$4 million.
