To Avoid Angering Trump, Walmart Decides to Hide Tariff Costs and Promises to Keep Prices Low
According to Jinse, on Tuesday, Walmart (WMT.N), the world's largest retailer, rejected the idea of listing costs related to Trump's tariffs next to product prices. This was in response to Amazon's plan to implement such measures, which sparked anger from the White House, denouncing it as "hostile political behavior." An Amazon spokesperson later clarified that Haul, Amazon's discount shopping site, "considered the idea," but "it was never approved and will not happen." A Walmart spokesperson stated, "We will not itemize product costs on our website." The spokesperson also mentioned that despite the uncertainty of Trump's aggressive tariffs, Walmart is "working to keep as many product prices as low as possible." Walmart's Chief Financial Officer said earlier this month that over two-thirds of the products sold in Walmart's U.S. stores are "made or assembled" in America.
